“This picture was taken on the back waters of Houghton Lake by Reedsburg Dam. I only had a few days left in Michigan before my deployment to Iraq and spending time with my sons in the outdoors fishing was all I cared to do. This is what life is all about to me, great memories that I will always cherish. After nearly a year in the desert I long for the simple pleasures that only home in Michigan can offer. The smell of the lake and trees, the sounds of the wind and wildlife, and after being here, it now has a value to me that not many would understand. The one and only thing that keeps me going here in Iraq is knowing that I’ll soon be able to enjoy those things once more with my family. Houghton Lake has a special place in my heart and always will. There’s no where else in the world I’d rather be than with my family on our beloved lake shore. God bless the USA and God bless Michigan. SSG. Darrald”
