Beautiful Blue

This story was sent to us by Penny Lane of Grand Rapids, MI. Here is her story, entitled “Beautiful Blue”:

This is the Lake – Beautiful Blue
With stones and sand and seagulls, too
Where we made a big splash and heard the waves crash
On our summer vacation in Michigan

This is the deer with the perky white tail
Who crossed ahead of us on the trail
That led to the Lake – Beautiful Blue
With stones and sand and seagulls, too
We built castles of sand – good, greater, grand!
On our summer vacation in Michigan

These are the foxes – furry and red
Off through the meadow they daintily sped
Near the woods, the deer and its perky white tail
Who crossed ahead of us on the trail
That led to the Lake – Beautiful Blue
With stones and sand and seagulls, too
Where we stacked the rocks like building blocks
On our summer vacation in Michigan

These are the pheasants – tawny and brown
Alongside the road that led out of town
Toward the field and the foxes – furry and red
Off through the meadow they daintily sped
Near the woods, the deer and its perky white tail
Who crossed ahead of us on the trail
That led to the Lake – Beautiful Blue
With stones and sand and seagulls, too
Where wings were flapping, while Grandpa was napping
On our summer vacation in Michigan

This is the cottage – cozy and green
Hidden by trees, almost unseen
Not far from the pheasants – tawny and brown
Alongside the road that led out of town
Toward the field and the foxes – furry and red
Off through the meadow they daintily sped
Near the woods, the deer and its perky white tail
Who crossed ahead of us on the trail
That led to the Lake – Beautiful Blue
With stones and sand and seagulls, too
Where Grandma loved sitting, while Mama sat knitting
On our summer vacation in Michigan

These are the squirrels – fluffy and black
Climbing up pine trees out in back
Of the quaint summer cottage – cozy and green
Hidden by trees, almost unseen
Not far from the pheasants – tawny and brown
Alongside the road that led out of town
Toward the field and the foxes – furry and red
Off through the meadow they daintily sped
Near the woods, the deer and its perky white tail
Who crossed ahead of us on the trail
That led to the Lake – Beautiful Blue
With stones and sand and seagulls, too
Where sister sat playing, while brother loved spraying
On our summer vacation in Michigan

This is the bat – a flying mouse
We didn’t expect him IN the house
This is his friend – a second “Boo!”
I guess they were on vacation, too
Since they were inside, we went out
We had the better time, no doubt

Watching four squirrels – fluffy and black
Climbing up pine trees out in back
Of the quaint summer cottage – cozy and green
Hidden by trees, almost unseen
Not far from the pheasants – tawny and brown
Alongside the road that led out of town
Toward the field and the foxes – furry and red
Off through the meadow they daintily sped
Near the woods, the deer and its perky white tail
Who crossed ahead of us on the trail
That led to the Lake – Beautiful Blue
With stones and sand and seagulls, too
Where we swam in the sun, oh, what fun!
On our summer vacation in Michigan
