How You Can Help
The most effective way you can communicate with your U.S. Representative and Senators is by sending them a hand-written letter. Currently, the Healthy Lakes, Healthy Lives campaign is running a petition drive to urge elected officials to restore the Great Lakes.
Below is the petition. We encourage you to send it to your elected officials. We also urge you to complete the Presidential candidate petition.
If you don’t have time to send a hand-written letter, please contact us and we will add you to the list of citizens who have signed on to the list.
Addresses for Representatives and Senators are as follows:

Restore the Great Lakes Today!
Dear [Representative / Senator first, last],
I am writing today to urge you to cosponsor and pass the Great Lakes Collaboration Implementation Act (H.R. 1350/S. 791), and to fully fund current Great Lakes programs.
The Great Lakes hold one-fifth of the world’s fresh water supply and provide drinking water to over 30 million people. The lakes are essential to the economic and cultural identity of our region.
Today, the health of our Lakes is seriously threatened by problems such as untreated sewage and invasive species.
The good news is we have manageable solutions to these problems. The Great Lakes Collaboration Implementation Act is a comprehensive federal bill that will modernize sewage treatment, clean up polluted harbors, restore wetlands, and prevent unwanted, new species from invading the lakes. Each of these steps is essential if we are to restore the lakes and safeguard our Great Lakes way of life.
It is time we use these solutions. Every day we wait, the problems get worse and the solutions get more costly. We must act now to restore the health of the Great Lakes.
I urge you to pass the Great Lakes Collaboration Implementation Act – to protect our drinking water, our economy, our health, and our way of life.
Thank you very much.
