U.S. Reps. David Joyce (R-Ohio) and Sander Levin (D-Mich.) are currently circulating a Dear Colleague letter in support of a letter to Chairman Ken Calvert (R-Calif.) and Ranking Member Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) urging them to continue to provide $300 million for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative in the Fiscal Year 2019 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill. We encourage Coalition members and partners to call  or tweet your Representatives and urge them to sign on to this letter! The letter closes March 13, at noon.

You may contact your Member of Congress via the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.

As we continue to push for full funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative in the face of across-the-board cuts in the President’s proposed annual budget, it is important that we have a strong showing on this bipartisan letter urging this funding to be restored through the appropriations process. This letter reminds the Subcommittee ranking members that the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative continues to produce results, but there is still more work to do.

Talking Points and resources:

  • The nation cannot afford to stop protecting the Great Lakes – More than 30 million people depend on them for drinking water
  • Restoration programs protect our drinking water, create jobs, protect public health and uphold a way of life for millions of people
  • Federal Great Lakes restoration investments are producing results, but serious threats remain
  • Cutting restoration programs will cost taxpayers more money—because projects will only be harder and more expensive the longer we wait
  • Please sign on to the letter today!
  • Over 150 success stories from around the region that show specific examples of successful restoration projects:
