Lake Erie site removed from list of pollution hotspots

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in February 2013 removed Presque Isle Bay from the government’s list of Great Lakes toxic hotspots. Contaminated sediments and a high incidence of tumors on fish in the bay in the 1980s landed the bay on a list of 43 Great Lakes Areas of Concern.

Presque Isle Bay is just the second site on the U.S. side of the Great Lakes to be removed from the Areas of Concern list. Read more here. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative contributed  $1.2 million to efforts to reduce pollution and restore the bay. Learn more about the GLRI here.
