The Ever Expanding River of Tumor’s

Named the “River of Tumors” because of the large number of fish sporting bulbous red plague like tumors, the Black River AOC has been expanded to include the entire watershed making it the largest AOC in Ohio. Due to excessively high residential development and farm practices (agriculture makes up about 51 percent of the land use) nearly a quarter of the land has eroded. According to the EPA, more than 17,000 acres are eroding at “excessive levels” and to make matters worse, more than 80 percent of these acres are used for growing crops.
