The work on the Rouge River is close to completion and delisting is possible in the near future. Many came together to preserve, protect and restore the habitat along the 125 miles of waterways and 1210 kilometers miles of its surrounding watershed. This river winds its way through one of the most historic, industrial areas of Michigan encompassing three counties, 48 towns and cities and 1.5 million people. The river is recovering from years of neglect and city and industrial waste that left fish and wildlife inedible caused beaches to be closed and saw the loss of much wildlife.
